A 23 year-old Shell Rock man has plead guilty to causing a fatal motorcycle accident this summer.
The man admitted that he was driving recklessly, going about 70 mph in a 35 mph zone, on a foggy night. He attempted to pass other drivers on an S curve when he struck a 19 year-old Waverly woman. She was pronounced dead at Allen Hospital. The man was also injured.
He faces up to five years in jail on charges of involuntary manslaughter. His sentencing trial will be announced at a later date.
Reports say he was very remorseful and privately apologized to the young woman’s mother before the man entered his guilty plea.
Jim “The Real Deal” McNeil, 32, was pronounced dead on Sunday after he missed his landing during a practice jump at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.
McNeil was a professional motorcycle stunt rider. Witnesses say his motorcycle was sputtering and experts have determined a mechanical failure caused the fatal accident. McNeil was flown to a nearby hospital where he later died of severe blunt force trauma to his chest and neck. He was wearing all of his protective gear when the crash occurred.
The stunt rider competed in five X Games and was sponsored by the Boost Mobile FMX team for seven years.
Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the victim.
One man is in the hospital suffering from head injuries after him and another man collided on their motorcycles. Both men were riding with the San Marin Vintage Motorcycle Club at the time of the accident.
The crash occurred when members of the club decided to go around a truck towing a horse trailer. The men had to cross into the lanes going in the opposite direction to do so. While some riders made it over safely, a 45 and 57 year-old man did not.
A pickup truck began approaching them head-on. The men swerved to avoid the truck and ended up hitting each other. Both were thrown from their bikes. The 45 year-old was hit by the pickup and taken to the hospital; the 57 year-old man was treated at the scene.
