Indiana State Fair stage collapse gets first wrongful death lawsuit
The first wrongful death lawsuit following the deadly stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair has been filed by the family of a woman who died when the stage fell on her. She is one of six people who died as a result and nearly three dozen other people were seriously injured.
The woman’s wife is suing the state of Indiana, Live Nation, Mid-America Sound Corp., and Dave Lucas Entertainment Group which designed and constructed the stage that fell down after a big gust of wind blew through only a few minutes before the country band Sugarland was scheduled to play.
This lawsuit will test Indiana’s treatment of same-sex marriage since gay couples are not eligible to receive benefits from wrongful death lawsuits. The couple was married in Hawaii and have raised a 17 year-old girl together.
