Rain Causes Idaho Rivers to Absorb Sewage
Heavy rainfall last week caused the sewage from a water treatment plant to be diverted into several rivers and streams across the state of Idaho.
This is not the first time sewage has been released into rivers in the area. In July 2010, there were 100 incidences of sewage plants releasing waste due to broken equipment or clogged pipes. The act of diverting waste into rivers is illegal.
Polluted streams and rivers can be hazardous to people’s health. The sewage can include human waste, which contains bacteria that could cause infections and diseases.
