Drunk Driver Facing Charges over 4 Fatality Crash

The Nebraska man arrested in connection with the August 9th drunk driving crash that killed four motorcyclists in Western Iowa last month is now facing charges in court.

According to the Iowa State Patrol’s final accident report, the 21-year-old driver had a blood alcohol level over four times the legal limit at the time of the accident. He had a BAC of 0.373, while the legal limit is 0.08.

The fatal accident happened in a construction zone on Interstate 29 near the Little Sioux exit. Four motorcyclists, who were heading home from a motorcycling convention, were struck by the drunk driver when he crossed the center line while headed in the opposite direction in his pickup truck.

Criminal charges against the drunk driver are pending an official report from the state crime lab’s toxicology unit, but will definitely be filed. In the meantime, he remains incarcerated. The widow of one of the motorcyclists has already filed a civil suit against the drunk driver, alleging that his negligence was the primary cause of the collision.
