A 17 year-old girl in the SUV was killed and four passengers were injured, including one in the drunk driver’s car. The driver’s blood alcohol content was measured at 0.175, more than two times over the legal speed limit.

The surviving passengers suffered serious injuries, including broken ribs, bruised lungs, shattered collarbones, and leg injuries.

Easterling, 62, was found dead last Thursday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his Virginia home. Prior to his death, friends and family say his memory had begun to deteriorate.

According to the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, the explosion occurred when one of the homeowners was in the garage working on a fuel pump. The injured, who was a passenger on the bus, complained of leg pain and was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital. According to authorities, the male driver of the minivan was turning left at the intersection of 42 Street NE and Council Street NE when the accident occurred.
