Driver flees scene of accident after hitting baby in stroller

A 22-year-old woman was recently arrested and charged with hitting a baby in a stroller when she drove her vehicle over a curb in Waterloo on Tuesday night.

The accident occurred at 8:15 p.m. on Baltimore Street after the woman had been in a fight with several people who stood on the street’s sidewalk. The woman got into her vehicle and repeatedly tried to drive over the curb in order to hit the people that she had been fighting with. One of the people had a baby in a stroller on the sidewalk, and the woman hit the baby’s stroller when she drove onto the curb.

The woman fled the scene of the accident, only to later turn herself into police officers. The baby was not injured during the incident, and the woman was charged with reckless driving and driving with an intent to cause personal injury.

Elderly man struck and killed in pedestrian accident

According to Des Moines police, a 91-year-old man was struck and killed by a dump truck near the downtown area Monday morning around 8 AM.

The pedestrian-vehicle accident occurred as the man was attempting to cross the road in his motorized wheelchair. According to the dump truck driver, he was making a right turn at the same time and struck the man, who he says he did not see.

Police are still investigating but no charges have been filed.

More Charges Filed Against Driver That Allegedly Hit 16-Year-Old Girl

55-year-old Joel Robert Simpson is accused of hitting Melissa Anne Robinson, 16, of Des Moines as she was strolling through Union Park. Simpson reportedly lost control of his Jeep Cherokee and veered into the park, hitting Robinson. The car then allegedly dragged her 75 feet.

According to the Des Moines Register, “Simpson had been charged with two counts of driving while barred, after he allegedly struck Melissa Ann Robinson of Des Moines on June 6.”

Now, police are charging him with “serious injury by vehicle, operating while intoxicated and operating a vehicle without consent,” reports the Register.

The Des Moines Register writes that, “[Simpson] has a long history of traffic violations, including drunken driving, and reportedly suffered a possible seizure in March when he was involved in a minor traffic accident while driving through a parking lot.”
