Volkswagen of America Inc. has issued a recall on over 30,000 2011-2012 Jetta sedans. After receiving several complaints in July of passersby burning their legs on protruding exhaust pipes, the automaker conducted an investigation and decided to issue a recall, which will start in November.
The investigation revealed that stainless steel exhaust pipe tips were installed on new Jetta models after importation. The tips stick out farther than original factory-installed exhaust pipes, which contributes to the inadvertent contact by unsuspecting people. If the car has been on and running for some time, the pipes could be very hot and cause burns. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Volkswagen will inspect and replace exhaust pipes as necessary, free of charge.

Some household appliances require large amounts of electricity. Because of the risks associated with electricity, people who use these machines put themselves at risk of injury.
These appliances include dish washers, microwaves, and washing machines. If any of these appliances has a defect, then people using these appliances could be electrocuted.
Defects often include faulty wiring or worn down electrical chords. Electrocution, however, could also be the result of using these household appliances in unsafe ways.

While many car accidents are caused by drivers, some are the result of problems with the car. Automobile defects include any inadequate or failure of a car part.
If the problem with the car part results in a car accident, then the car manufacturer, part manufacturer, or other related party may be liable for damages. Also, if the defect is with a safety device and the safety device fails to work properly in an accident, then safety device manufacturer or other related party may be liable for damages.
One precaution that all drivers should take is to get their cars inspected regularly as required by law. These inspections can sometimes detect defects before they become problematic.
