A 20-year-old woman who was driving south on I-380 on Wednesday night in Johnson County lost control of her car when she tried to exit onto the I-80 eastbound ramp.
The woman’s 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt struck a guardrail on the exit ramp, which forced the car back into oncoming traffic. There it collided with a semi-truck driven by a 61-year-old man. The woman was taken by ambulance to the University of Iowa hospital for her injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured in the crash.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, a one-car crash last weekend left two Williams residents dead.
The accident took place Saturday morning in Franklin County near Dows. A 40-year-old man lost control of his 1992 Mazda as he was traveling eastbound on Balsam Avenue. He crashed into a roadside creek.
The 40-year-old man and his 14-year-old passenger were killed in the crash.
The accident remains under investigation.
Cedar Falls police report that a 26-year-old woman died last Saturday morning in a single-vehicle accident.
According to authorities, the accident took place early Saturday morning when the 25-year-old driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle. The truck then ran off the road and struck a retaining wall before hitting a parked vehicle.
The woman was riding passenger in the truck and was killed immediately. The driver was taken to a local hospital.
A head-on collision on Iowa Highway 28 killed one person and injured three others last Tuesday, according to police reports.
The fatal accident occurred around 4:20 PM when a southbound 2000 Mercury Marquis crossed the median into oncoming northbound traffic.
The 62-year-old Norwalk woman driver of the sedan crossed over a raised median and ran headlong into a 1990 Jeep Cherokee driven by an 18-year-old man from Norwalk. The impact killed a 28-year-old woman who was riding in the passenger seat of the jeep.
The drivers of both vehicles along with an 18-year-old man in the backseat of the jeep were taken to Des Moines area hospitals for treatment. All there are reportedly in critical condition.
The Iowa State Patrol is still investigating the accident and as of now the reason why the sedan crossed the median is unknown.
An Iowa man was injured in a two-vehicle accident Monday. According to police reports, the accident occurred on Highway 21 near Benton County.
The accident apparently was the result of an SUV crossing into another lane, and the SUV was hit by a semi truck. When medical officials arrived, the SUV driver was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
