Posted on July 8th, 2010 No Comments

55-year-old Joel Robert Simpson is accused of hitting Melissa Anne Robinson, 16, of Des Moines as she was strolling through Union Park. Simpson reportedly lost control of his Jeep Cherokee and veered into the park, hitting Robinson. The car then allegedly dragged her 75 feet.

According to the Des Moines Register, “Simpson had been charged with two counts of driving while barred, after he allegedly struck Melissa Ann Robinson of Des Moines on June 6.”

Now, police are charging him with “serious injury by vehicle, operating while intoxicated and operating a vehicle without consent,” reports the Register.

The Des Moines Register writes that, “[Simpson] has a long history of traffic violations, including drunken driving, and reportedly suffered a possible seizure in March when he was involved in a minor traffic accident while driving through a parking lot.”
